Some Additional & Exciting New about Indoor Programs
Over the winter, we have been working on a new format for the Small Fry, Sandpiper & Sailpiper programs that will be launched this summer!
We are pleased to announce that the updated program will not only be including daily activities such as tennis, swim lessons & lunch bunch, but parents will simply need to drop of their little ones at 8:00 a.m. and come back to pick them up at 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
While we are finalizing some of the details, including potential field trips and additional activities, please do not hesitate to contact the office (firstname.lastname@example.org, 609-494-4485) or Programs Trustee Stacey Kliesch with any questions or recommendations you may have to further to improve the experience of our little ones at your club!
As we are going through the Renovation of the South Harbor Facilities, we would like to ask members who are planning on storing their boat in the Boatyard to please hold off on bringing them over to the club until Memorial Day Weekend (05/24/2019). We would truly appreciate your help and cooperation with this request as we work our way through the completion of the project.
Access to the boat ramp, wet slips, North, Opti and South Beaches will not be affected.
March Sailing Program Updates - Devin Beattie
This winter has been cold and windy here on the east coast and I keep catching myself daydreaming about summer. I have some exciting new additions to the BBYC sailing program this coming summer.
We are adding two new classes to the sailing program, Opti 3 Adventure and Adventure Sailing for Sunfish, Laser, and 420’s. The links below show the new progression through the sailing program and the descriptions for each course.
- Sailing Program Progression
- 2019 Sailing Course Descriptions
We are also very excited about adding a few 420’s to the BBYC fleet. Sunfish and Laser sailors will have regular opportunities to learn more about this double handed boat throughout the summer. Opti sailors will also have some opportunities to experience the new 420’s as well. 420’s are a competitive boat used in high school and college sailing. Being involved in the 420 fleet will broaden our competitive sailors opportunities in the sport. Our instructors are well versed in 420 racing and are looking forward to increasing the number of sailors in the 420 fleet.
I am looking forward to a wonderful summer at BBYC. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out. More updates to come in April!
Devin Beattie - Director of Jr. Sailing

South Harbor Renovation
If you have not had the opportunity to visit the club lately, we are pleased to share the latest photos of the renovation project on the members' website Please click here to access them.
While we are delighted with our members' curiosity and interest in the progress, we ask that you refrain from accessing the construction site without being escorted by one of the project managers. Non-compliance is dangerous, encourages trespassing by others and increases BBYC's liability exposure. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation!!
No longer using your SUP or Kayak?
To enhance our juniors enjoyment of our beautiful cove this summer, we are looking to acquire Stand-Up Paddle Boards and Kayaks. If you would like to donate your good condition, used equipment, don't hesitate to contact the office (firstname.lastname@example.org or 609-494-4485)! We are certain our juniors will love them this summer! Thank you in advance for your support!
The New Cannonball Club!!!
The Junior Programs Committee and our creative staff have been working hard to develop a new, dynamic, summer program for our members aged 8-15, replacing previous offerings. This age range is when kids build the friendships that last a lifetime, and we want BBYC programs to be a place where those memories are created.
Brant Beach Yacht Club is excited to announce our new Cannonball Club!
The Cannonball Club will have a big emphasis on water sports, including kayaking, paddle boarding, tubing and more. We will also be taking field trips like mini golf, bowling, and Go-Kart racing, just to name a few! BBYC favorites like swimming, tennis, basketball, beach trips and High Island adventures will all be part of the Cannonball Club activities rotation.
We are pleased to announce new team member Kevin Closs as the Jr. Sports Manager who will be taking the lead in bringing the Cannonball Club to life, combining his experience as an NJ licensed teacher, veteran coach of the Haven Beach Swim Team and Long Beach Island resident. We are excited for Kevin’s new ideas and his fresh outlook that will breathe new life into our programs at BBYC.
The Cannonball Club will be based out of the South Harbor Facility and held five days a week from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Ages 8-15 will be broken into 2-3 age groups, depending on enrollment. We hope that your children are excited about a new camp experience at BBYC this year and that our member families will support this program with robust enrollment. Happy, content tweens turn into young adults returning to the cove year after year, to share their fond memories of BBYC and make new ones with you and their future families.
Please contact the office (email@example.com, 609-494-4485) or Programs Trustee Stacey Kliesch with any questions or recommendations you may have to continue to improve programs
Sailing Instructor In Training Program
A new exciting Training Program at your club!
With the revamping of the Junior Sailing program under our new Junior Sailing Director, Devin Beattie, some great opportunities have developed. The Junior Sailing Committee will be initiating the Brant Beach Yacht Club Sailing Instructor Training (SIT) Program to provide a clear educational path for our Junior Sailing Members, ages 14 and up, interested in becoming sailing instructors in the future.
The SIT position is designed for Brant Beach YC members who do not have any sailing instruction experience, have participated in BBYC racing track (Opti, Laser, 420, Sunfish), and would like to become Junior sailing instructors. This 8 week, non-paid position is a pathway to being considered for a paid Junior sailing position, assuming there are open positions. In an educational environment, the SITs will learn how to successfully use their learned sailing skills alongside our full-time sailing instructors who will train and supervise the SIT's.
The SIT's readiness to be a full-time instructor will be assessed and his/her capabilities (i.e. patience, temperament, communication skills, etc.) needed to be a successful instructor will be evaluated. This program will allow for SITs to participate in the BBYC sailing program in the afternoon and work alongside instructors in the morning.
While a comprehensive program description is under development, we believe this will be a great program to engage our young people to pursue sailing and improve the quality of instructors on our cove
